what if we viewed mistakes and glitches as creative possibilities rather than problems? could we change how we relate to both our art and ourselves if we practiced being open to the new directions mistakes want to take us?
often when we work on a creative project, we have an idea of where we’re headed and if we error, we view that as a step away from our goal. we can also be cruel to ourselves when we make mistakes. perfectionist parts get activated by these mistakes and can berate us to try to get us “back on track.”
in this workshop, we will practice opening to the unknown in our creative practices by allowing glitches and mistakes to change the course of where we thought we were headed. together we will:
- get in touch with our perfectionist and controlling parts to make sure they feel listened to but also to see if they are open to new ways of relating to mistakes,
- explore why we are so attached to certain outcomes with our creative projects and see if there is room for play and wandering in our work,
- move through generative exercises where we greet mistakes with curiosity and see where those mistakes might take us,
- consider how we might move forward in our creative practices with more awareness for when we are falling into perfectionism and control that actually distance us from playfulness and pleasure.
